Cardinal

One of three modalities. Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) start things. They mark the change of season and they tend to act first, think second.

Cardinal is one of three modalities, the structural quality of a sign. The four cardinal signs are Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn. They sit at the four turning points of the year: Aries opens spring (March equinox), Cancer opens summer (June solstice), Libra opens autumn (September equinox), Capricorn opens winter (December solstice).

This placement is not decorative — it is the whole personality of the modality. Cardinal signs initiate. They are the signs of action, of starting, of taking the first step. They tend to act first and think second.

The shadow of cardinality is restlessness: an Aries who starts ten things, a Capricorn who never lets up on ambition. AIstra uses the modality to texture forecasts. A cardinal-sign reader hearing "this is a day to start" will recognise the prompt as feeling natural.
